The current high prevalence of antibiotic resistance in certain microbes, combined with the additional risk of erroneous use of antibiotics driving further antibiotic resistance, is a global challenge. Currently available technology can identify resistance mutations and guide successful treatment of common sexually transmitted infections. This is particularly pertinent in treating Mycoplasma genitalium and Neisseria gonorrhea infections.
